We focus our trips on the water upstream of bearspaw dam west of Calgary. While the fishing is spectacular on the "Lower Bow (downstream of Calgary)", we bring a more rocky mountain feel to our trips. On any given day, there is a strong chance of catching Bull Trout, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, and Rainbow Trout with Cutthroat Trout being the most prevalent depending on season and conditions.
I started Log Town Outdoors because fishing has always been more than just a hobby for me — it’s where I feel connected and grounded. There’s something about reading a river, watching a drift unfold, and feeling that connection when everything comes together. Over time, I realized the best part wasn’t just catching fish — it was sharing those moments. Watching someone hook their first trout, gain confidence in their cast, or simply slow down and enjoy the water is what made me want to guide. Log Town Outdoors exists to share that experience — the patience, the learning, the quiet excitement — with others who want to step into the river and be part of it.
We’ll connect with you well before your trip date to answer any questions and make sure everything is dialed in. On the day of your booking, we’ll meet at a predetermined rendezvous point before arranging transportation to the launch location.
Before we push off, we’ll take time to understand what you want out of the day — whether that’s learning the fundamentals, targeting fish on dry flies, throwing streamers, refining technique, or simply relaxing and enjoying a scenic float. Each trip is tailored to your goals.
Once on the water, you’ll receive clear, practical instruction on casting, presentation, fly selection, and understanding trout behavior. Our approach is hands-on, supportive, and built around helping you gain confidence while enjoying the experience.
For full-day trips (and depending on timing), we’ll stop for a catered lunch along the river. Lunch typically includes fresh wood-fired pizza or quality sandwiches — a comfortable break to recharge before heading back out.
We’ll finish the day at the designated take-out point and ensure all guests have safe transportation back to their vehicles before wrapping up the trip.
We keep things simple so you can focus on enjoying the day.
All rods, reels, flies, terminal tackle, and essential fishing equipment are provided. We also supply snacks and refreshments to keep you fueled on the water.
We recommend bringing:
Weather-appropriate clothing (layers are key in Alberta)
A rain jacket or windbreaker
Sunglasses
Sunscreen and a hat
Any personal medications
A small personal bag for essentials
You must bring:
A valid fishing license
If you prefer to fish with your own rod or gear, you’re welcome to bring it — we’re happy to adjust setups as needed.
Our goal is to make your trip comfortable, organized, and stress-free from start to finish.
Lets be honest, learning to fly fish can be intimidating. Choosing the right guide can make the difference between leaving completely frustrated and deflated or unforgettable day that starts you on your own fishing journey. At Log Town Outdoors, we combine years of river experience with a passion for sharing it. We provide a relaxed, and fun atmosphere where the focus in on the experience and not the outcome.
